The second year of competition on the new Harris Hill ski jump was blessed with great weather. Eastern jumpers training with Project-X dominated the 2010 Pepsi Challenge ski jumping competition.
Chris Lamb and Nick Fairall, both products of the "Andover Air Force" of the Andover Outing Club in New Hampshire, and Will Schott of the Blackhawk Ski Club, Madison, Wisconsin, filled the podium in the open class, ahead of jumpers from Austria and Slovenia. Christian Friberg of St. Paul MN won the Junior Class which was made up mostly of entries from Minnesota, Illinois and Wisconsin, while Abbey Hughes topped the small Womens Class. The home team boasted two Brattleboro jumpers, Willy Graves who traveled east from Park Ciy, UT for the event, and Spencer Knickerbocker who had the honor of opening the ne w hill just a year earlier. |

The start list for Sunday's 85thAnnual Fred Harris Ski Jump was little changed from the previous day's Pepsi Challenge, and the three class winners were all repeated -- Chris Lamb (Open Class), Abbey Hughes (Ladies Class) and Christian Friberg (Junior Class). The enthusiastic crowd of spectators was entertained with lots of long jumps. Of the 24 starters, 18 put down jumps of 90 meters or more, and fans were treated to five 100 meter flights.
Olympian Vladimir Glyvka returned ten years after he retired the Winged Ski Trophy and, skiing as a fore-jumper, laid down several graceful rides of about 80 meters. |
