2010 North American Junior-I Championships
ORDA Intervale Ski Jumps, Lake Placid NY, Jan 1-2, 2010
The North American Junior-I Ski Jumping Championships were conceived as a big hill competition for the best young ski jumpers in Canada and the U.S. However, with the 2010 edition scheduled in Lake Placid, the Canadian contingent decided to pass up the event and avoid the long trip from Calgary. To fill the void, Lake Placid organizers invited senior jumpers to ski in a non-competitive group during the Nor-Am jumping.

Weather forced two major changes to the week-long schedule and some decisions were driven by the desire to provide certain events as tryouts for the World Junior Championsips. In the end, the North American Championships consisted of three events:

  • Nordic Combined competition with the race on Friday Morning, Jan 1, using jumping points from the Wednesday evening Masters K-90 jumping.
  • The premier event, the K-120 jumping competition on Saturday morning, Jan 2.
  • The K-90 jumping on Saturday afternoon, Jan 2. (moved up from Sunday because of forecasts of a winter storm.)
The 90 meter event, along with two other Normal Hill jumps earlier in the week, and the two Nordic Combined competitions, were tryout meets for the U.S. team headed to Hinterzarten, Germany for the World Junior Nordic Skiing Championships.
