The Soaring Saturday series was started a few years ago as a way for ski jumpers training in Lake Placid during the summer months to have some friendly competition and to put on a show for any visitors who happened to be touring the jumping complex on a Saturday. Sometimes there were modest cash prizes for the winners. The first Soaring Saturday competition of the 2009 summer season was held on July 4 with all of the skiers from the previous day's Annual Independence Day competition.
Tara Garaghty-Moats beat the boys again, and posted the longest ride of the day.
