Empire State Winter Games Nordic Combined Competition

After the ski jumping medals awarded, a motorcade carried seventeen Nordic Combined
competitors with organizers, coaches, parents, girlfriends, and others to the
Biathlon Stadium at Mt van Hoevenberg, where the cross country races finished a long
day of competition for these Empire State Games participants. The course was a 2.5 km loop where the open class finished a sprint competition using the first-round jump points on the 90 meter hill, then skiing three laps for a 7.5 km race. The other classes (Masters, Ladies and Boys Scholastic) took their jumping points from the 48 meter hill, both jumps. The Masters raced one lap (2.5 km) while the Ladies and the Scholastic Boys raced two laps (5 km), except that eleven year old Miles Lussi was accorded special dispensation to race just one lap. |

| At 10 am, before the Empire State Games jumping began, NYSEF coach Matt Cook organized a small hill "Tele-Tournee" on the 18 meter jump for smaller kids. Cook himself judged style based only on falls and Telemark landings. This was a fun-meet, not part of the Games, and with only five participants, it took well under an hour. The skier jumped two rounds, then Nordic Combined competitors immediately took off on a 2 km cross country race. Here are the results, divided into skiers age 9 and under, and those 10 and up. |
