Following a string of mechanical failures at their Storrs Hill facility, the Lebanon Outing Club postponed their annual Carnival jumping by one week. The domino effect then caused two other meet organizers to change their dates, but finally, the Upper Valley competitions got under way in Hanover on Jan 17 and moved to Andover on Jan 18. The third event was the Lebanon Carnival on Jan 24, which offered jumping on three hills. The Lebanon 50 meter jumping was a qualifying event for the team heading to the Junior Olympics to be held in early March in Anchorage, Alaska, but the planned Nordic Combined competition (also a Junior Olympic qualifier) was dropped from the schedule and skiers wishing to qualify for JO's were advised of the change. Ryan Crawford reports that the temperature dropped from 42 degrees late Friday to the uppers teens one day later, and that the weather front brought winds that caused a few delays during the K-50 jumping. However he asserts that nobody seemed to notice the cold as the skiers and fans enjoyed the activities.

Competitons on the two smaller jumps, the 10 and 25 meter hills, used two judges. For each competitor, the final score was the sum of the best two out of three jump scores obtained by adding the distance in meters to the two judges scores. In some classes, recognized by the small judges scores, a simplified judging system was also used.
