The Dion Cup competition was expanded for 2008 with the addition of small hill jumping and a Nordic Combined event. Skiers had the option of jumping on 10 meter or 25 meter hill, and finished off the competition with a foot race to decide the Nordic Combined rankings.
The jumping was scored by simply adding style scores to the distance in meters. For the foot race, a Gundersen handicap system was used, sending out the top scoring jumper first and then requiring lower scoring jumpers to wait six seconds for each point back before starting.
The Nordic Combined results table below is further complicated by the use of a "wave start" in which the lowest four scoring competitors were started on the run together, rather than having them get lonely on the race course. Their official times were corrected to reflect the differences between their handicaps and their actual start times.
Skiers young and old from Lake Placid (NYSEF), Andover NH, and Kennet High School joined the Lebanon Outing Club regulars in a day of sporting competition. Awards and a picnic followed the competitions. The rains forcast for Sunday stayed away and a good time was had by all.
