Lake Placid Masters
90 Meter Ski Jump
December 29, 2007
|
A
SuperTour
event!
|
The tradition of the Annual Lake Placid Masters Ski Jumping Tournament was
begun in the 1950's when "Masters" meant the very best,
long before arrogant over-age athletes hi-jacked the word "Masters" to refer to themselves. For decades the Masters competition was an invitational meet combining all jumpers, young, old
and in between, into a single competitive class. Recently another
category has been added to accomodate female ski jumpers, and this
year, in a break with tradition, organizers split the male skiers into
Junior Class and Open Class.
The 53rd Annual Lake Placid Masters Ski Jump, hosted by ORDA,
kicked off a weekend of Nordic Ski competition in Lake Placid. All three
competitions: the Masters on Saturday evening, Dec. 29, the New Years
competition held on Sunday morning, and the Nordic Combined event, were
qualifing competitions for the team to travel to Szczyrk-Wisla in Poland
in early February for the 2008 World Junior Nordic Skiing Championships.
