The week leading up to the Saturday Lions Club meet brought record warm temperatures followed by record cold and capped with a foot of snow Friday night, but the ORDA hill crew prevailed and the three events went off on schedule. Chief of Competition Sean Burke and his NYSEF volunteers started with 18 meter jumping, then moved to the 48 meter jump and finished with the Nordic Combined cross country races. The new snow left the landing hills a little soft, and the cross country course was very soft and slow.
When the skiing was finished, everybody retired to the second floor of the base lodge for food prepared and set out by NYSEF volunteers. The Lake Placid Lions Club has been supporting jumping at the Olympic jumping complex for over fifty years, and Lions club representative Doug Hoffman was assisted in presenting awards by his granddaughter Alyssa. Chief scorer Janet Bliss drew names for visits to a full prize table. Plenty of green was worn at this St. Patrick's Day event.

NORDIC COMBINED

Cross country races for the Nordic Combined competition were held at the jumping complex. The course started on the 18 m. outrun and ran behind the Freestyle building and up along the driveway and parking lot. Turning left into the woods, the course climbed to the icehouse by the 48 m. tower, then returned to the bottom, ran past the start and crossed the K-48 outrun, toured the big-hill outrun and returned to the start. Some classes took one lap, some took two.
All the 18 meter competitors ran together in a one lap, mass start race. The third table below shows the Junior-2, Junior-3 and Open Class competitors in a single list, with the class indicated.
