Continuing warm weather threw the January small-hill schedule on its head,
with Andover and Lebanon organizers shifting, swapping and covering for each
other. Finally on January 27, Jon Farnham and his hard-working crew offered
Eastern jumpers three well prepared hills for an enjoyable ski jumping party.
Eastern jumpers responded, bringing out the usual suspects plus several surprises.
Lebanon native Casey Follensbee, now living in the hills west of Dannemora NY,
shook off nine years of rust and jumped nicely on the 20 meter hill. It looked
easier for Tobin Whitman, now graduated from Gettysburg College and living and
working on Long Island. He had only four years of rust to remove, and he
jumped right to the bottom of the 50 meter hill.
Andover, NYSEF (Lake Placid) and host Lebanon all fielded strong teams,
and when was the last time you saw six skiers in Masters class? Both elitists and
populists will agree that things are looking up in Eastern jumping.

The competiton on the 25 meter hill used two judges with the standard scoring system (3.2 points per meter). For each competitor, the final score was the sum of the best two out of three jump scores.
