A few scenes from IMC 2003

[The Big Three] A team of four ladies organized IMC 2003, beginning to end. Three of them were presented at the opening ceremony, along with the Mayor of Zakopane, IMC Chairman Alf-Tore Haug and the first Polish Olympic Medalist.

Organizing ski jumpers is just like herding cats.

 

[Barbeque] The opening ceremony ended with a barbeque, as hungry jumpers crowded around a big outdoor fire pit, roasting polish sausages on long iron forks, while thirsty ones lined up next door to buy a tall glass of beer.

 

[Knut Wester] A quiet role model for all adult beginners, Knut Wester (NOR) began jumping at age 37 and stayed on small hills for over twenty years. Recently, he has become more serious about the sport, buying new equipment and getting regular coaching. This year during the IMC, at age 62, he took his first big hill jump on the 85 meter hill. One week later he traveled from his home in Oslo to Vikersund to ski a full 90 meter hill. Congratulations Knut!

[The big 120 meter hill] [Flying high on the big hill]
Hosts opened the big 120 meter hill on Friday afternoon for any IMC jumpers
interested in some high adrenaline flying. Several bold athletes showed up and
turned in jumps of 60 meters to 120 meters distance. Marko Gohlke (GER)
high above the landing on his grass-green suit was one of the long-flyers.

 

[Happy Hungarians] Hungarian colors flew for the first time at IMC 2003. These two happy jumpers wave the flag of Hungary as they show off their medals from the 35 meter competition. Ten nations competed this year and all ten took home medals. We hope to see Masters from even more European nations at IMC 2004 in Reit im Winkl, GER.

 Olai Lie
 The lady in the traditional costume was a regular at the awards ceremonies, giving medals but no kisses.

Ninety year old Olai Lie has been a star of the IMC since the beginning. This year he jumped beautifully on the 35 meter hill where he was awarded straight twenties by the style judges. He is an inspiration to all Old Boys.
