IMC 2008 Entry List is Posted
(Feb. 13) Erkki Ahtiainen has distributed an early version of the list of skiers
entered in the 2008 IMC in Taivalkoski FIN. We have posted three versions:

As we look at the list, we see that the Home Team will be huge as Finland lists over 75 skiers. Norway has the usual large group but Sweden is down in number, as is Germany. We are delighted to welcome back a group from Estonia, and also five representatives from Ukraine. Russia is well represented with two dozen names in the list, and Great Britain returns with two athletes, but we are disappointed to see only two names from Austria. However, we are pleased to welcome a new nation, Latvia, to the IMC family.

Attention, the HS-24 is an offer from the host! I would like to use this hill for the masters who are 70 years old and older especially for the NC results. We added this hill to the program. If we have a safety problem on the HS 40 then we have to lower the age and change to the HS 24. The jury would decide this in close cooperation with the IMC committee. The schedule is subject to change.
I am sorry that we sent the invitation so late. The reason is that the son of Tapio, one of our responsible people and race leader, died at the age of 26. His son's funeral was last week. Our deepest sympathy is going to him and his family in the name of the IMC.
The start will be a special start. Anton Zapf would like to celebrate a festive classical concert with us in the church of Taivalkoski under the motto "Peace and Tolerance" with choir and orchestra from Konservatorio Oulu with around 50 to 70 people. In close cooperation with the mayor of Taivalkoski, the IMC organizer and the director of those ensembles, Arja Ollioa.
I am happy that we have found many interested people in our hosts who want to create successful games for us. They know our IMC so well in Finland that Matti Nykänen would like to celebrate his comeback with us.
All masters (age 30 and over) are invited to come to Taivalkoski.

Achtung die HS 24 ist eine Offerte von unserem Gastgeber. Ich möchte gerne diese HS24 für die Mastres ab 70 Jahre speziell für die nordische Kombination. Wir halten die HS 24 zusätzlich im Pragramm. Fals wir ein Sicherheitsproblem auf der HS 40 haben werden wir die Jahrgänge heruntersetzen und gehen von der HS 24. Die Jury wird dies in enger Zusammenarbeit mit der IMC Kommittee entscheiden. Änderungen im Programm unter Vorbehalt.
Es tut uns leid, dass die Ausschreibung so spät versendet wird. Derr Grund ist das Tapio´s Sohn mit 26 Jahren gestorben ist und letzte Woche beerdingt wurde. Im Namen der IMC ergeht unser tiefes Mitgefühl Tapio und seiner Familie.

IMC 2008 Negotiations Almost Finished: (Dec 10) The IMC Executive Committee has been working feverishly, discussing among themselves and negotiating with the Taivalkoski hosts to iron out the details of the upcoming Championships. An invitation with detailed information should be made public soon. (DCW)

Masters Summer Grand Prix a Great Success!
Here is his brief report:
[Oct. 2] I am just back from the 2nd International Masters Summer Grand Prix in Einsiedeln. It was a great succees not only for us Masters but also for the host. This event would strengthen the IMC future. Three of us were present from the IMC board: our TD Alexander Diess; Anton Zapf, our Chairman for Culture and Communication; and I as IMC president and race leader for this competition.
We not only got to know a fascinating facility, we also met wonderful people. Everybody who contributed to this 2nd International Masters Summer Grand Prix, bringing it to this level of success, has not only generated great respect in all participants but they all have moved forward the entire masters sport a great deal. We have opened the door to the Swiss skiing assocation with Garry Furrer chairman of Swiss jumping who handed out the medals personally. The IMC president gave four awards to Einsiedeln. The first IMC award went to the best host, second IMC award went to the organizer who, with his many helpers but with only four month lead time, was able to organize such an international Masters event, and to Ralf Schnyder our IMC Swiss chairman. A miniature jumper in gold went to the chairman of the Swiss skiing assocation Garry Furrer and the secound miniature jumper in gold went to the Ski Club Einsiedeln, represented by Herman Kälin.
The IMC did say thank you to all of them..

A Few Statistics 52 skiers from eight nations traveled to Einsiedeln, Switzerland for a few days of sport and fellowship at the second Masters Summer Grand Prix.
(Team sizes: AUT 8, FRA 1, GBR 2, GER 16, NOR 8, RUS 1, SUI 15, SWE 1)
Following the usual IMC practice, participants chose up to two events from four ski jumping competitions held on hills of size 28m, 50m, 77m & 117m (28 & 77m on Friday, Sept. 28 and 50 & on Saturday, Sept. 29). With the small number of participants, the Masters welcomed a few guest jumpers younger than the Masters age of 30, including the son of Norwegian Master Sindre Helland, the only jumper to participate in every IMC event.

Rund 400 begeisterte Zuschauer verfolgten am vergangenen Freitag und Samstag den internationalen Masters Sommer-GP auf allen vier Einsiedler Schanzen.
Links: Der Einheimische Marco Steinauer, der vor einem Jahr vom Spitzensport
zurückgetreten war, gewann auf seiner Hausschanze in seiner Kategorie die Goldmedaille.
je. Bei unterschiedlichen Witterungsbedingungen brillierten 58 Skispringer der Jahrgänge 1977 bis 1933. Am Samstag zeigte sich unsere Region den Gästen aus neun europäischen Nationen mit prachtvollem Herbstwetter von ihrer schönsten Seite. Von den Hauptdarstellern, den «Oldies», wurde Skisprungsport vom Feinsten geboten.
58 Medaillen verteilt
In den diversen Altersklassen wurden auf allen vier Schanzen insgesamt 58 Medaillen vergeben, 21 Gewinner, 19 Zweitplatzierte und 18 auf Rang drei. Hervorragende Leistungen zeigten auch unsere einheimischen «Alt-Athleten» Marco Steinauer und Bruno Reuteler. Beide siegten in ihrer Alterskategorie auf der Akad-Schanze (Hillsize 117 Meter). Staunen erregten die beiden Bestweiten von Marco mit 111 und 110 Metern.
Stilmässig wurden alle Richtungen gezeigt – eine Art Skisprunggeschichte in zwei Tagen! Das teilweise fortgeschrittene Alter zeigte sich nur auf dem Papier, nicht aber im athletischen Wettkampfgeist. Leidenschaft für den Skisprungsport, Fairness, viel Spass und stilvolles Verhalten in allen Belangen sind ihre herausragenden Attribute. Auch der älteste Teilnehmer, Richard Diess (Ö), bewies mit seinen 74 Jahren, dass Skisprungsport nicht das Privileg von «Youngsters» ist. Erst vor vier Jahren, nach über 30-jähriger Tätigkeit als Skisprungtrainer in Österreich, hat der Entdecker und langjährige Trainer von Andi Goldberger wieder als Skispringer begonnen.
«Wir durften Gast sein auf modernen Anlagen in einer wunderschönen Region. Wir lernten wunderbare Menschen kennen und erlebten tollen Sport in einer völkerverbindenden Gemeinschaft. Wir kommen wieder.» Mit diesen Worten bedankte sich Klaus Günther, Präsident des «International Masters Ski Jumping Committees». Organisator Ralf Schnyder und der Nationalen Skisprunganlage Eschbach (NaSE) überreichte er den IMC-Award für beste Organisation und den besten Gastgeber.
Sieger waren nicht nur alle 58 Teilnehmer. Sieger waren und sind auch die Einsiedler Schanzen, die Organisatoren und nicht zuletzt die freiwilligen Helfer. Alles in allem ein Super-Anlass. Alle scheinen Sieger zu sein – nur ein grosser Wermutstropfen bleibt – die ungelösten finanziellen Altlasten der Schanzen.
