Karla Keck Captures Women's Exhibition in Ramsau

RAMSAU, Austria (Feb. 19) - Veteran Karla Keck (Oconomowoc, WI) ignored a steady rain Friday night to capture a one-round women's exhibition ski jumping meet that concluded the first day of the 43rd World Nordic Ski Championships. Lindsey Van (Park City, UT) was fourth, missing the bronze medal by a single point.

The rain created tricky conditions, pooling at the transition of the jump as it ran down the in-run, but Keck - who started jumping as a youngster, about 20 years ago - powered through the soggy conditions for the longest jump of the night. She went 68.5 meters and received 68.0 points; Austrians Sandra Kaiser and Eva Ganster took the silver and bronze medals while the diminutive Van went 57.5 meters but received the best style points of the evening and finished in a tie for fourth with 46.5.

Liz Szotyori (Saugerties, NY) was 10th in the field of 27 female jumpers from nine nations. Molly Stone (Lake Placid, NY) was 13th and Veronica Myhra (Stillwater, MN) was 23rd.
