AREN'T YOU CURIOUS TOO?
Before Silveretta took over, the dominant binding for ski jumping was the KANDAHAR cable
binding (made in Norway) with Bergen front throws. But Kandahar is a large city in southern
Afghanistan. What is the connection?
I have been curious for a long time, but with Kandahar, the city, recently in the news, I have finally
dug around and, I think, found the answer. It seems that the connection is through the famous
Arlberg-Kandahar ski race, which grew out of a first race in 1911 for which a British war hero put
up a trophy. Read about it in
a brief history by Allen Adler (click and scroll down).
