November 2005
RE: 2006 Junior Olympics, Lebanon & Hanover, NH
Dear Prospective Junior Olympians (and Mom & Dad):
We enthusiastically invite you to try out for the 2006 Eastern Junior Olympic Ski Jumping & Nordic Combined team!
This year, the Eastern Division will be hosting this national event -- we hope you will join your Eastern teammates and participate in the best JO's ever.
You may do so if:
- You are 15 years old or younger as of Dec. 31, 2005;
- You hold a current USSA competitor membership by February 2006;
- You abide by the USSA Code of Conduct at all times;
- You compete in at least four JO qualifying competitions;
- You compete in the two K64 JO qualifiers in Salisbury, CT Feb.
11 & 12;
- You submit the Letter of Intent, a $150 deposit and a Medical
Release Authorization no later than January 8, 2006.
Point totals will be maintained on prospective Junior Olympians and will
be used during the final selection process. Consideration for a position
on the team will also be given to athletes who demonstrate a high level
of commitment, a good attitude during training and the desire for
advancement. Final discretion for appointing the team is held by the
Junior Olympic coaching staff and the Eastern Junior Committee.
The dates of all qualifying events will be printed in the early winter
issue of New Heights. The Eastern web site, skijumpeast.com is another
good source for up-to-date information.
If you plan to try out for the JO team, the attached Letter of Intent, a
$150 deposit payable to the Jr Olympic Team, and the completed Medical
Release Authorization (remember the copy of your health insurance card)
need to be returned to a Junior Committee member by January 8, 2006. The
deposit will be applied to the overall cost of the trip if you make the
team. If you do not, your deposit will be returned. Please be aware that
deposits will be forfeited if you make the team and then quit or are
removed for cause.
The 2006 Junior Olympics will be held in Lebanon, New Hampshire. The team will stay at the Fireside Inn & Suites along with the other teams. Arrival wil be mid-afternoon on Tuesday, February 28 and we will stay for four nights.
The cost of the trip, which will cover lodging, meals, competition fees, team gear, lift fees, banquet and
ground transportation, will be $600 to $800. This will be due prior to travel on February 21. Every effort
will be made to reduce this cost as much as possible.
Parents, your support is greatly appreciated and attendance at JO’s is encouraged. With the Eastern Division hosting this year's event, volunteer help will also be needed. If you are interested in volunteering, please email Dan Brown, Volunteer Coordinator for JO's, at dan.brown@netzero.net
During the Salisbury weekend events, we plan to run a Silent Auction. If a JO parent is able to coordinate this,
we will use the proceeds to reduce the total cost of the trip. If you (mom or dad) would like to coordinate this
event or help, please contact Marianne. Many other fund raising activities are possible; please speak with Marianne
about your ideas.
We hope this letter has answered all your questions and will encourage you to consider trying out for the 2006
Junior Olympic Team. The Junior Olympics is the highlight of the winter season; let’s go for the GOLD!
Please feel comfortable contacting Eastern Division coach Larry Stone; Eastern NC coach Matt Cook; Chairman of Eastern Jr. Committee Jim Carter; Team leader Marianne Fairall, or your coach
if you have any questions. See you on the hills!
Sincerely,
The Eastern Junior Committee
The 2006

TRAVEL CONTRACT FOR EASTERN SKI JUMPING AND NORDIC COMBINED ATHLETES
Experience has shown that setting clear expectations regarding personal conduct on training and competition
trips saves painful difficulties later. Athletes and parents don’t always understand the degree to which
misconduct on the part of an athlete can disrupt coaching and training for all concerned and turn an exciting
opportunity into a negative event.
Section 2, item 1 of the USSA Code of Conduct (Appendix B in the 2004 USSA Comp Guide) states: USSA members
shall maintain high standards of moral and ethical conduct, which includes self-control and responsible behavior,
consideration for the physical well being of others, and courtesy and good manners.
Specifically, swearing and excessive displays of frustration are unacceptable on Eastern trips and
may lead to removal from specific practices and/or competitions for a period of one or two such sessions.
A cluster of such behaviors will lead to the athlete being sent home early.
Section 2, item 2 of the USSA Code of Conduct deals with illegal drugs and alcohol.
Specifically, using alcohol or drugs on an Eastern trip will lead to involved ESJ&NC athletes
immediately returning home with the athletes’ families incurring any additional expense.
Any unacceptable behavior deemed unbecoming of an Eastern Competitor may lead to immediate dismissal.
The signing of this contract indicates the athlete’s willingness to abide by the USSA Code of Conduct
and to follow the dictates of team leaders and coaches.
Athlete’s Signature ______________________________
A parent’s signature indicates their support of the spirit and particulars of the contract and their
willingness to pay additional expenses for an athlete to be sent home early for irresponsible behavior as
outlined above.
